Agree the scope before the move
TealHost helps customers move existing websites and email. The work depends on the source platform, access available, data size and the services you want to keep. A cPanel account and a website built on a hosted platform can need very different approaches.
Ask us to confirm what is included, any migration charge and the expected schedule before ordering. Custom code, paid licences, third-party integrations and website repairs may need separate work.
A migration you can check at each stage
Review the existing setup
List the website, database, mailboxes, DNS records and external services. Identify where new orders, enquiries or content are being saved.
Prepare a copy and a backup
Keep a recoverable backup. Copy the agreed website and mailbox data into the new environment while the old service remains available.
Test before changing DNS
Check pages, forms, logins, SSL and application connections on the destination. For a shop, plan a final data sync so recent orders are retained.
Switch and verify
Agree the changeover window. Update only the DNS records needed, test the public site and email, and keep the old service until the checks are complete.
Keep existing conversations in view
Creating the same email address on a new server does not copy its old messages. Mailbox migration needs its own scope, including folder contents, storage requirements and device settings.
If you already use Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another email provider, tell us before the move. Your website can move while email stays with its current provider. Preserve the relevant mail records and authentication settings.
For new mailboxes, see our business email setup guide.
Plan the changeover around your business
There is no single completion time for every migration. Large mailboxes, busy databases and limited access to the old provider can take longer. DNS caches may also continue sending visitors or messages to the old service during the transition.
For an online shop or booking system, agree whether a short pause on changes is needed for the final sync. Ask which checks must pass and how traffic can be returned to the old service if an issue appears.
Keep the old hosting active until your website, incoming and outgoing email, and any recent data have been checked. A planned move reduces disruption; it does not justify an unconditional zero-downtime promise.
You can keep your domain where it is
Moving hosting and transferring a domain registration are separate actions. You can keep the current registrar and point the relevant DNS records to the new hosting. If you also want TealHost to manage the registration, arrange that transfer separately.
Common questions
Is migration free?
Ask TealHost to confirm the scope and any charge for your specific website and mailboxes before ordering. The amount of work varies by platform, data size and access.
Do I have to transfer my domain?
No. You can move hosting while retaining your current registrar, provided the necessary DNS records can be updated.
Will all my email move automatically?
No. Existing messages need a mailbox migration or export and import. Agree which mailboxes and folders are included before the changeover.
