A domain that says Mauritius
.mu is the country-code domain for Mauritius. It is a natural choice when your customers, work or identity are connected to the island.
Use the same name for your website and business email, such as hello@yourbusiness.mu. Registering the domain secures the name for the paid term; website hosting and mailboxes are separate services.
Choosing between extensions? Compare .mu and .com before you decide.
How to register your .mu domain
Search your name
Enter your preferred name in TealHost’s domain search. Check the spelling before selecting an available result.
Choose what you need
Register the domain on its own, or add web or WordPress hosting. The search shows the available options and current quote.
Complete your registration details
Use accurate registrant and contact information, review the period and total, and complete checkout.
Connect your website and email
Once registration is confirmed, configure the domain for your chosen hosting and email services. Ask us if you need help planning DNS.
An availability result does not reserve a name. Registration is complete only after payment processing and registry acceptance. Check the confirmation in your account before announcing your new address.
What you need before checkout
The .mu registry agreement allows registrants who are identifiable adults over 18 or legally recognised entities. You need accurate contact details, including a postal address, working email address and telephone number. An organisation’s contact must be authorised to act for it.
Check that your chosen name respects other people’s rights and the registry’s policies. TealHost’s quick search currently accepts names with at least four characters before the extension and excludes premium names. Contact us about a name the search cannot handle.
Privacy for .mu is handled by the registrar by default; you do not need to buy a separate privacy add-on from TealHost.
Read the .mu Registration Agreement for the registry’s full requirements.
Keep the name your customers know
A domain is registered for a fixed period. Renew before its expiry date and keep your account email current so renewal notices reach you. Your domain renewal and hosting renewal may have different due dates.
Already own a .mu domain? Check a transfer to TealHost. A registration transfer does not copy your website or mailboxes; use our migration guide if those need to move too.
Common questions
Do I need hosting to register a .mu domain?
No. You can register the domain on its own and add website or email hosting when you need it.
How long does registration take?
Timing depends on payment processing, correct registration details and registry acceptance. Check your account for confirmation; contact support if an order remains pending.
Is privacy an extra charge for .mu?
Privacy is handled by the .mu registrar by default. TealHost does not sell a separate .mu privacy add-on.
Will a .mu domain automatically improve my Google ranking?
No. It can make your connection to Mauritius clearer, but useful content, a working website and other search signals still matter.
